{"id":41,"date":"2011-12-23T04:29:46","date_gmt":"2011-12-23T04:29:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/johnmark.net.au\/mx\/?p=41"},"modified":"2012-02-26T12:16:00","modified_gmt":"2012-02-26T12:16:00","slug":"5-classic-mentoring-questions-for-pastors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/johnmark.net.au\/mx\/?p=41","title":{"rendered":"6 Classic Mentoring Questions for Pastors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span>These are six clusters of questions I often use in mentoring once a relationship of trust has formed.\u00a0 Some are a little confrontational and should be used with care.\u00a0 Note: I do not recommend mentoring like this within a relationship of structural authority.\u00a0 Mentoring of this nature should be within a non-structured relationship.\u00a0 I.e. the mentor is outside the organisation \/ church and not in a position of authority over the mentoree.\u00a0 I do not use all of these questions in every session, that would be a bit heavy, however I keep them &#8216;up my sleeve&#8217; for the right times.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span>What have been the most significant events in your spiritual life in the last month?\u00a0 In what areas are you currently seeking spiritual guidance?\u00a0 What do you find yourself praying earnestly about?<\/span><span><span>(Note: The movements of a leader&#8217;s spiritual life are critically important.\u00a0 The ability to identify, share and reflect on these is vital in mentoring.)\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span>When was your last full day off and how did you spend it?\u00a0 When is your next day off?\u00a0 What plans do you have for the time?<\/span><span><span>(Note: Working either too much without time off or alternatively being too slack is common for people in ministry who often have few external structures of accountability.\u00a0 No days off correlates highly with burnout!)\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span>When was the last time you finished something well?\u00a0 How did this come about?\u00a0 What are the two most significant unfinished projects you have before you now?\u00a0 What steps are you taking to work on these?\u00a0 What is stopping you from completing them. <\/span><span><span>(Note: Unfinished projects are a common cause of anxiety and stress.\u00a0 Sometimes leaders need the chance to get an alternative view on them and find an alternative strategy for completion.)\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12px;\"><span>What expectations of yourself are you currently struggling to meet?\u00a0 How would your wife \/ husband reflect on these?\u00a0 Are they fair and reasonable?
