Ministry Renewal Retreats Victoria – Facilitators Training

Great to be back with the facilitators of Ministry Renewal Retreats Victoria for their final training day of 2022.  Tim and I enjoyed the day’s training again at St James Old Cathedral, particularly the great lunch spots nearby!

We began the day with a Biblical reflection on joy.  We then explored recent work on anxiety and stress in ministry, reflecting on strategies facilitators could use in retreats to support pastors and leaders. To finish the day we assessed ourselves against the Renewal Retreat Facilitation Competencies.

The new resources are in our shared Dropbox.

Baptist Churches of NSW and ACT – Church Consultancy Training

Back again to Macquarie Park!  Again with the Specialised Consultancy Team at the Ministry and Learning Centre for the Baptist Association of NSW and ACT. We started by reflecting on insights from Appreciative Enquiry (Ai) and its place in Complicated and Complex Systems. We then explored the benefits of taking an Assets Based Community Development (ABCD) in church consulting.

The notes and resources can be found in SharePoint.

Mary Andrews College – Theological and Pastoral Perspectives on Trauma (Seminar 2)

Tim and I continued the Theological and Pastoral Perspectives on Trauma seminar unit via Zoom from Perth. Tim started with a Biblical reflection on justice and righteousness before looking at sources of power in Christian ministry, spiritual abuse and environments which enable it, and bullying behaviour. He concluded by reflecting on Biblical values to guide congregational recovery and processes for collective trauma recovery for congregations that have been impacted by spiritual abuse or bullying.

Leading Change and Transition – Seminar 4

Tim concluded the seminar series Transform Southern Sydney has been hosting for leaders on change and transition leadership (on zoom from Perth today). He explained stages and phases in life and leadership and the life cycle of a church / congregation, introduced several analytical tools, and concluded by covering elements of leadership theory specifically related to leading transitions well. It has been a pleasure to journey with the group through the year.

All notes and resources are now in the team Dropbox.

Anglican Diocese of Sydney – Parish Recovery Teams Training

It was good to be with the Parish Recovery Team for their final training day of 2022.

We started with a Biblical reflect on Psalm 23 and then revisited key documents and articles. We reflected on a recovery consultancy and considered use of the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) tool to monitor Compassion Satisfaction and Fatigue (Burnout and Secondary Traumatic Stress).
