Both our new Team B and the existing Team A met on Wednesday in Concord for Workshop 2 of the training program. We covered the facilitation processes of the first couple of weeks after a critical event. Notes are on our new Parish Recovery Site.
Prayer Team
A number of people recently in churches I visit and in courses I teach have asked about praying for John Mark Ministries and our family. This is much appreciated. If you would like to get our Prayer Notebook in order to pray, usually emailed in the first week of the month, please let me know at tim@johnmark.net.au
Baptist Churches of NSW and ACT Church Consultancy Training Workshop 4
The theme of today’s consultancy training workshop was change and transition in churches, particularly the transition of pastoral leaders. We began the morning with a reflection on leadership in the wilderness time – Moses and Exodus style. This was adapted from some of William Bridges work on change. We looked at facilitating Pastors leaving churches well and considered an example of a consultancy around this topic. An update on a current consultancy the team is working on gave us plenty to reflect on after lunch and we finished the day exploring transitional consultancies and reflected on the 5 developmental tasks involved.
Notes for the day are available on our group website.

Punchbowl Christian Centre
I enjoyed spending the morning with friends at Punchbowl Christian Centre on Sunday. As part of the church’s “My place in God’s space” series we looked at the nature of Spiritual Gifts and their use for God’s kingdom. In this session we unpacked the New Testament teaching on “charismata” or grace gifts. I suggested that it is most important to be open to the Giver -God, and open to where and how God’s grace might flow through our lives to others. Rather than seeking out specific gifts, maybe the challenge is to find the areas in which God’s grace flowing through us impacts the lives of others for their growth.

Conflict Jesus’ Way – Door of Hope

Tim taught on Jesus’ approach to conflict over two sessions at Door of Hope Christian Church in Launceston on Sunday. In the first session, Matthew 5, 7, and 18 provided the basis for a pathway of resolution. At the 5.00pm service, the focus moved to forgiveness as a tool for resolving interpersonal conflict. The two powerpoints are displayed below.
